Braveheart 2014: The Smile Generation®, in partnership with KaBOOM! and the PDS Serve Foundation™, helped to build two playgrounds in two different states and provided donated dentistry to patients in need.

Playground volunteers

It was an exciting couple of weeks for us here at The Smile Generation. In the course of three weeks we built two playgrounds in partnership with the nonprofit KaBOOM! organization, whose mission is to bring play to kids who need it most. Smile Generation-trusted clinicians and volunteers helped build playgrounds in Houston, Texas for the Houston CAN Academy and one in Inglewood, Calif. for the Environmental Charter Middle School.

There were over 400 volunteers for the two combined events, and we built both playgrounds in only one day! But that wasn’t all we did. In Houston on October 18, 2014, volunteers built two shade structures, eight picnic tables, four Mendocino benches, six garden beds, two art panels, two trash bins, created several beautiful landscapes, mixed and poured nearly 175 bags of concrete and moved 143 cubic yards of mulch! In Inglewood on November 1, 2014, volunteers built two shade structures, eight Mendocino benches, eight garden beds, four trash containers, created a paved pathway, mixed and poured nearly 175 bags of concrete and moved 150 cubic yards of mulch!

And since The Smile Generation is all about connecting you with great dentists, we put them to good use, bringing smiles to those in need through donated dentistry.

In Houston, Smile Generation-trusted clinicians served over 70 patients at an onsite dental clinic with the PDS Serve Foundation Mobile Dental Clinic. More than $51,000 in donated dentistry was provided! In Inglewood, Smile Generation-trusted clinicians served over 115 patients and provided more than $62,000 in donated dentistry.

Doctors and donated dentistry

A big thank you to everyone who volunteered! I think Mother Theresa said it best when she said “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.”
